NBA Trade Rumor Close to Final

New Orleans Hornets Center Tyson Chandler and Charlottle Bobcats Center Emeka Okafor have a lot in common. Both were 2nd overall picks in their respective draft classes. Both are 26 years old. Both are listed right around 7'0". And the similarities don't end there -- both players are likely to find their fates intertwined sometime before tomorrow's end.

Sources close to the Associated Press reported late Monday night that they anticipate a trade in the coming hours involving a swap between Okafor and Chandler. Okafor averaged 13.2 points and 10.1 rebounds last season for Charlotte, while Chandler posted a statline of 8.8 points and 8.3 rebounds in a season in which he bounced from the Hornets to the Thunder and then back to the Hornets. The trade may involve other players, but no big names are expected.

Michael Vick Partially Reinstated

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell conditionally reinstated QB Michael Vick on Monday, July 27th. After serving 18 months in prision for his participation in a dogfighting operation, Vick now will be permitted to reenter the league as Goodell jurisdicts, with the current date of full reinstatement tenatively set at Week 6. According to ESPN.com's Sal Paolantonio, "a source close to Vick expressed 'shock' over the severity of Vick's punishment and said Vick will reapply for full reinstatement as early as Week 1."

Vick is officially allowed to participate in training camp and preseason workouts for any team he may sign with. He is also free to play in the latter two preseaon games.

At one time the highest paid player in the NFL, the 29-year-old Vick has expressed remorse: "As you can imagine, the last two years have given me time to re-evaluate my life, mature as an individual and fully understand the terrible mistakes I have made in the past and what type of life I must lead moving forward," he said.

Vick's issues are far from over. The Giants, Jets, Falcons, and Cowboys have all expressed no interest in Vick. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

If you were a GM, would you want Vick? Or do you think he would simply be a disruption to team chemistry? Post your opinions via comment!
