NBA Trade Rumor Close to Final

New Orleans Hornets Center Tyson Chandler and Charlottle Bobcats Center Emeka Okafor have a lot in common. Both were 2nd overall picks in their respective draft classes. Both are 26 years old. Both are listed right around 7'0". And the similarities don't end there -- both players are likely to find their fates intertwined sometime before tomorrow's end.

Sources close to the Associated Press reported late Monday night that they anticipate a trade in the coming hours involving a swap between Okafor and Chandler. Okafor averaged 13.2 points and 10.1 rebounds last season for Charlotte, while Chandler posted a statline of 8.8 points and 8.3 rebounds in a season in which he bounced from the Hornets to the Thunder and then back to the Hornets. The trade may involve other players, but no big names are expected.

This is a terrible trade for the Bobcats, Michael Jordan is a terrible talent evaluator. I know they are trying to free cap space, but what good is cap space if you continue to make poor decisions? They could have $100 million in cap space and it wouldn't matter with the current administration. The Hornets are getting a beast. He's a double-double machine and arguably the best defender in the game. Charlotte will be stuck with an injury prone, defensively lackadaisical Chandler. They almost made the playoffs last year, but they've just taken a big step back with this trade!

I'd have to totally agree with you there, my friend. Okafor is a defensive standout and provides more quality minutes than Chandler. It will be interesting to see how he and Chris Paul do together.
